The collaboration underscores BUK's commitment to democratic processes, with the university pledging to provide essential human resources to the electoral body.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, affirmed this commitment during a courtesy visit by Ambassador Zango A. Abdul, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kano State, on Tuesday, May 20, 2026. Professor Musa reiterated the university's readiness to support INEC in its mandate.
Ambassador Abdul, during his visit, lauded BUK for its consistent and invaluable contributions to electoral integrity in Kano State. He emphasized that the realization of free, fair, and credible elections would be significantly challenged without the university's active participation, acknowledging BUK as a pivotal contributor to the democratic landscape of the state.
Further solidifying the partnership, the INEC REC formally requested the university's assistance in providing a venue for a crucial three-day voter registration exercise. This exercise, targeting Ungogo Local Government, is scheduled to take place from June 2nd to June 4th, 2026, at a location within the university premises.
In response, Professor Musa reaffirmed BUK's unwavering determination to play a vital role in guaranteeing the transparency and credibility of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
