National Universities Commission Okays 5 Programmes for Bayero University. ---- Accredits four
In its effort to maintain the number one Universities ranking in Nigeria, Bayero University Kano has been given approval for five new Programmes by the National Universities Commission, NUC.
This was made known by the Director Academic Planning Unit, professor Abdurrashid Garba on Wednesday in his office. He said the 5 Programmes are B.Ed Tech, B.Sc Industrial Chemistry and B.Sc. Irrigation Engineering. Others are B.Sc Electronics as well as B.Sc Agric extension.
According to Professor Garba, Four Verification Panels visited the University from 3rd to 11th December 2007, with T.A. Gbodi led Panel Verifying B.Sc Industrial Chemistry. Professor A.N. Nzeako Panel Verified B.Sc Electronics, B.Eng. Irrigation Engineering was verified by Engineer J.K. Adewunmi led Panel. Department before Bursar resumes on Friday 25th April, 2008.
All cases requesting Bursar’s atten-tion should be referred to him.
Appointment
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Attahiru M. Jega OFR has approved the appointment of Dr. Garba Sa’ad as Head, Department of Education for a two-year term with effect from February 26, 2008.

Macosa Elects President
Jamilu Abdulsalam of 400 level Mass Comm has been elected as the new President of Mass Communi-cations Students’ Association.
According to the chairman electoral Committee, Malam Abdul Mutallib Ado Abubakar, Jamilu Abdulsalam got 139 votes while the runner up Abubakar Barra’u got 105 votes.
Malam Abdul Ado stated that the election which was conducted on 18th March 2008 was free and fair, adding that the elected President was sworn-in the following day.

Professor Abdurrashid Garba further said B.Sc Agric extension and B.Ed Tech were verified by Professor C.P.O. Obinne and Professor Imo E. Umoinyang led panels respectively.
Similarly, four programmes B.Sc. Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Agric Engineering have attained full accreditation by the National Universities Commission.
It would be recalled that in November 2007, NUC sent accreditation teams to Bayero University to accredit these programmes. Professor Babatunde Alo of University of Lagos led the team to accredit B.Sc. Chemistry and Computer Science, while Professor James Katande led Panel accredited Agric Engineering and Computer Engineering respectively.
Bursar on 3 Weeks Leave
The Bursar, Malam Abdu Gimba will be away for three weeks as part of his annual leave with effect from 27th March 2008.
